Many kinds of rollers are used in one rolling-mill, they are designed according to customer requirements, based on these facts, lots of formed bits for mill roller are adopted to turn the rollers. Till now these formed bits edge has been grinded manually and tested by some simple templets. Workers take on very large workload everyday, but there is so low grinding precision. So we must take some measures to improve status in quo. In order to enlarge efficiency and decrease workload, CNC grinding method is chosen to heighten grinding precision. With design and CNC grinding method of formed bits for mill roller analyzed, this dissertation presents design mode of CNC grinding oriented for formed bits, up-grades the workability of formed bits for mill roller. The new ideas, methods and technologies presented in this dissertation are significant on improving the quality and wear of formed bits for mill roller. Considering edge curves of formed bits for mill roller, variant methods are adopted to fit those curves, one kind of CNC code oriented way is selected for curve fitting. Typical edge curves of formed bits for mill roller are fitted exactly, as a result, advantadges of this method are summarized. And the CNC code oriented curve fitting makes CNC code being automatically created more convenient. Based on the study of CNC grinding technology, aimed at the structure and using requirement of formed bits for mill roller, conforming with practical production, CNC grinding mode is put forward. And grinding track is optimized at the same time. Prototype of designing edge curves of formed bits for mill roller is composed by three important parts: subsection parameter inputting part, uniform parameter inputting part and executing windows. Standard G code document supports a fine interface for the three parts. With G code document being executing in system of VCNC, a several experiments verify that System for CNC code being automatically created can be well used on the grinding of formed bits for mill roller.
