With the development of science and technology, the technique of roundness error measurement and detecting is more and more indispensable. Roundness error measurement technique is used in many fields and plays an important role in relate fields.The roundness tester is a highly precision instrument that is wildly used to measure the rotary work piece in mechanical industry. The aged roundness tester was astricted by the technique condition of that time, so its way of measurement is not at all advanced. Because these roundness testers have been used for a long time, they have a highly failure rate and their accuracy can not be insured. Therefore, traditional roundness tester cannot fill the requirement of the development of modern science technology.The rapid development of computer science has brought about a new revolutionary change in the measuring instrument, and brought forth the virtual instrument. So it is not only feasible but also fill the demand of science development to do research on the roundness error measurement which is based on virtual instrument.A detailed introduction of structure, components, principle, function and applications of the virtual instrument is given in the dissertation. Besides, based on the general knowledge of virtual instrument, a feasibility analysis of the research on roundness error measuring technology based on virtual instrument is made. Therefore a structure plan for the software and hardware used in the virtual instrument system based on the PCI bus card inserting form is also offered. Taking the innovation of the HYQ035 roundness tester of our college lab for example, the theory and principle of computerized innovation of roundness tester is introduced in the thesis. The selection of various modules forming the hardware of the virtual instrument as well as the software is expounded in the dissertation, such as the designs of the instrument panel, data collection, analysis and processing of the whole system, visualization output of result. In addition, the method for evaluating roundness error through computers and corresponding calculating methods and procedures is researched.The virtual instrument designed in the papers is used for practical test of the axis roundness errors, whose results show that the virtual instrument is not only in its easy structure, but also in the automation, digitization and visualization of testing process in comparison with the traditional. At the same time it greatly increases testing and data processing speed and the testing accuracy.
