The photoconductive properties of azo compounds were reported as early as1969 . Then azo compounds were widely researched in the photoreceptor industry ascharge-generation materials. The technological advantages of azo compounds were(1)they were adaptable to low-cost solution-coating manufacturing technology;(2)they were highly sensitive;(3)they had a wide spectral range, 450nm to 800 nm;Additionally, the photoelectrical stability of azo compounds had been shown to beexcellent. In order to find a newtype of azo compound which had goodphotoconductive performance, we synthesized a series of bisazo compounds andthen photoconductivity was discussed.2,5-Bis(4-aminophenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole was synthesized in this paper firstly.Synthetical conditions of the compound were studied in details. The structures of eachintermediates and the final product were confirmed by melting point, MS, IR, UR,HPLC and EA.Then bisazo compounds were synthesized by coupling 2,5-bis(4-aminophenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole with purified naphthol and its analogues. Synthetical technological conditions were disussed. The structure of final products was characterised by EA, IR and XRD.At last, we studied performance of the biazao compounds. The date of X-raydiffraction analysis showed that the treatment of the final products had influence oncrystal structure of the bisazo compounds. The better treatment was abtained and thefinal product with this treatment had a good photoconductive performance. The bisazocompound with ortho-chloride in coupling compound had the best xerographicperformance.
