CO2 short-circuit arc welding is widely used in iron and steel welding because ofits high efficiency and low cost. But its large quantity of spatter and poor beadformation quality are the major defects of CO2 short-circuit arc welding .Theextensive used electric control mode which includes improvement of externalcharacteristics of power source, wave control, unified control, intelligent control isused to reduce welding spatter.Active wire is made by adding active fluxes on the surface of wire to reducewelding spatter and improve the formation of weld. The easy ionized materials ofactive fluxes reduce the effective ionization voltage, improve the effective ionizationdegree of arc atmosphere, and increase the number of electronic particles, whichimprove the conductivity of arc. The surfactant active fluxes greatly reduce thesurface tension of droplet. Based on the analysis results of the active fluxes effects, itcan be concluded that active fluxes make droplet transfer in smaller size andaccelerate droplet transfer.Droplet transfer process of active wire and normal wire is recorded throughhigh-speed photograph. The recorded result show that cycle of active wire is morestable, short-circuit transfer is more stationary and the scale of instant short-circuittransfer is smaller. The experiment result show that active wire can reduce welding spatter, especially big particle spatter, at the same time, active wire can apparently improvethe formation of weld.
