The technology of electro-biofilm as a new method of treating wastewater has been developed and researched in recent years, so it is very worth studying deeply and horough in both respects of theory and practicality. This paper mainly study the applied range, effect factor and the theory foundation of electro-biofilm technology. Two factors to achieve that aims are to find the nourishment to the biofilms in terms of deleterious conditions and find out the inner motivity of the electro-biofilm reactor can purifying wastewater in long-term. The main content in this article are as fellows:The experimental results of microbes' culture and acclimation as well as the purifying effect of wastewater by the method of electro-biofilms show that: the poisonous phenol can become the organic carbon sources and energy sources to the growth and metabolism of biofilms, simultaneously, there being poisonous organics such as phenol in wastewater is one of the necessary conditions to the long run of electro-biofilm reactor. The experimental results of purifying wastewater containing different solubility product of metal ions show that: the application range of electro-biofilm reactor is widely, not only the little KS metal ions can be well purified , but also the large KS metal ions(initial concentrition is about 30 mg·L-1)after treated by it can surpass the standard of industrial reused water. The concept of biofilms' cascade structure and the assumption of biofilms' abrasion and refreshment are put forward in experiment of purifying simulative wastewater containing phenol and heavy metal ions, which is as an inner motivity to explain the electro-biofilm reactor can treat wastewater chronically and continuously and to explain the fluctuating phenomenon of purifying effect: the pollutions removal rate fluctuation is connected with the biofilms' abrasion and refreshment; namely, the organics removal rate firstly fall down then ascend slowly but visibly with old cascade layer falling off and new cascade layer coming out and outgrowing, but the metal ions removal rate change very little during the whole period as it can be evenly adsorbed or chelated by the biofilms' active spots and inactive spots.
