Flax is a kind of natural cellulose fiber with excellent properties, which make its products good wearing characteristics and style. So it meets requirements of the markets in the global textile. But the property and spinning ability of flax and the traditional flax wet spinning technology restrict the superior quality and diversification of linen products' developing.In order to overcome the disadvantages of flax and meet the needs of the cotton spinning system and processing, three kinds of refining technology of the fiber were studied in the research work-alkali modification, enzymatic modification and combination of chemical and enzymatic modification. According to the spinning property of modified flax fiber, this kind of fiber could satisfy the requirement of cotton spinning machine and make high quality product. Therefore, it would be a meaningful work to study how to get the refined, fiber. The conclusions weredrawn as follows:1. Modification and refining of flax need thepretreatment in hot water with assistant. This way could help the liquid permeate the tow before alkali treatment. This process could also dissolve part of pectin and hemicellulose, which would reduce the treatment burden.2.By researching in \the process of alkali modification wefound that the concentration, time and temperature had great influence on the fiber performance like pectin content, lignin content, weightlessness, strength and elongation length, etc. However, alkali treatment has its own extent. If the reaction exceed it, the fiber will be has damnification and the strength of fiber would decline. This kind of flax will split decline during carding .3. The optimal processing and best assistant agent was obtained by orthogonal design on the basis of analysis of every single parameter of alkali treatment. The influence of every single parameter was compared.4.Species of enzyme, concentration of liquid, time, temperature and PH could affect the effect of enzymatic modification. Pectinase and hemicellulase were chosen, and different processing condition were carried out through orthogonal experiment design. Variance analysis methods were used in analyzing the numerical data. Finally, the optimal processing condition of enzymatic modification of flax was obtained.5. Combination of chemical and enzymatic modification had merit in both alkali and enzymatic treatment. It refinedand modified the flax better than the other methods.6. Flax fiber modified with three different treatment could be used in cotton system processing, to manufacture yarn with superior quality, but every process had its own. There was environment pollution in the alkalimodification, and a new feasible method was applied by enzymatic modification and combination of chemical and enzymatic modification enzymatic which enabled to consume less alkali and was environmental friendly and the resulted fiber has good hand property. However, the reaction conditions of the two methods with enzyme were strict.
