High sulfur coal acting as a kind of important energy source, the storage capacity of it is quite wealthy in our country. But up to now, this kind of coal is seldom used in cement industry. Reasons are that the amount of sulfur in high sulfur coal is very high, and more likely to cause crusting and blocking problems. Therefore, to make the application of high sulfur coal in the new dry cement process into reality, it is very meaningful and critical to solve correlation problems of sulfur on the burning process of cement clinker in view of the production characteristic of cement dry process.Test methods such as DTA, XRD and cement chemical analysis were used in this paper. Effects of sulfur at the terms of alkali or alkali chlorine on the decomposition temperature of carbonate, the solid phase reaction, emerging temperature and in a great amount of liquid phase are firstly discussed, and the effect mechanism is also analyzed. Secondly, effects of sulfur in different forms on the minerals composition of cement clinker at different temperature are researched. At last, the best ration of sulfur and alkali in the clinker and the best sintering temperature are determined, and the relationship between the formation of C2AS with sulfur and alkali, and the method to prevent C2AS forming are also discussed.The results show that the decomposition temperature of carbonate reduces after sulfur added alone, and the decomposition temperature of carbonate increases after sulfur added with alkali or alkali chlorine. The speed of solid phase reaction is accelerated, and the emerging temperature of liquid phase is reduced, and also the temperature of liquid phase in a great amount when sulfur added with alkali or alkali chlorine.At lower temperature, when the introducing amount of sulfur is in a little, the reaction activity of FeS is better than that of CaSO4, but both are in favor of promoting the formation of C3S;at higher temperature, when the introducing amount of sulfur is too much, though the reaction activity of FeS and CaSO4.2H2O get greatly excited, sulfur in the two forms do not contribute to the formation of C3S.The best ratio of sulfur and alkali in cement clinker is 1.64, and the bestsintering temperature of clinker is 1345°C. The formation of C2AS is related to sulfur and alkali, the formation of C2AS can be prevented by controlling the ratio of sulfur and alkali.The innovation of this paper is that the influences of sulfur with alkali or alkali chlorine on the clinkering process of cement are systemly analyzed, and two introdcing forms of the sulfur are adapted. Controlling the ratio of sulfur and alkali can promote the formation of clinker minerals, meanwhile restrain the formation of C2AS.
