The liquid sulfur storage system of the high sulfur-containing natural gas purification plant is in the high temperature and high sulfur environment.The corrosion and breakage problems threaten the production safety.In this paper,based on the breakage problems of the liquid sulfur storage system of liquid sulfur pools and liquid sulfur tanks in puguang high sulfur-containing natural gas purification plant,and with the investigation and finite element analysis method,reasons and a set of improving suggestions of liquid sulfur storage system are put forward,which not only decreases the hidden danger of the liquid sulfur storage system,improves its security condition,and also puts forward experience and theoretical support for the liquid sulfur storage system of other purification plants.In this paper,the study achieved the following results.(1)The structure analysis of liquid sulfur tank has been made with ABAQUS software.The eigenvalue buckling analysis on the liquid sulfur tank shows the change rules between the roof's conversion thickness and critical buckling loads.So that the boundary conditions of the tank's instability can be predicted.When the converted thickness of the roof is about 4.3 mm,the tank under external pressure may cause buckling deformation: concave and convex deformation on the edge of the roof.(2)Based on the theory of extreme value distribution and the probability statistics method,the liquid sulfur tank's corrosion pit depth maxima and corrosion allowance are acquired.Through the results we can avoid the happening of perforation failure,and have some guiding significance of determining the maintenance period of tank.(3)The finite element analysis software is adopted to simulate the temperature field of the liquid sulfur pool.The simulation result shows that the temperature of the concrete layer is more than 100?.Besides,the deformation simulation of internal partition shows that high temperature environment will cause adverse effect to the concrete structure.High temperature is the mean cause of breakage of the liquid sulfur pool.(4)A set of improving suggestions,in terms of the temperature control of concrete layer,material selection and operation optimization,etc,are proposed to the liquid sulfur pool of puguang purification plant.And liquid sulfur tank corrosion control measures have been put forward,which helps to solve the problems for management and maintenance of the tank.
