Nowadays the thinking on ecology become more and more mature, and people start to pay more attention to Thoreau and his works. Bases on a careful reading of Thoreau Walden, this paper applies the method of the integration of historical and logistic to interpret Thoreau's thinking of ecology form three approaches: literature, history and philosophy.First, this paper makes certain Thoreau's status in the history of ecology as the first elucidator on nature and the first environmentalist in American history. It then introduces the significance of Walden and interprets its ecological thinking. The interpretation of Thoreau's ecological thinking is divided into two parts. The first part is ecological-nature which expresses both romantic and transcendent and the second part is ecological-ethic which represents forward. Finally, it discusses the realistic meaning of Thoreau's thinking and behavior especially for our country nowadays.The interpretation of Thoreau's thinking will be helpful for realizing the realistic foundation, the precondition of philosophy, the real meaning and the dispute on theory. It will also be helpful for us to analysis its meaning in practice and science and the faultiness on theory. Thus we can master the historical meaning of ecological thinking.
