NC technique is advancing towards flexibility, intelligentizing and networking. These trends require NC system to develop along four dominant ways which from special closed architecture to multipurpose open architecture, from simplex operation to integration function, from passively controlled to active intelligent as well as from isolated control to internetworking. All these trends could be boiled down to one problem on how to build up a NC platform with open architecture containing a great variety of advanced technology measures because that as long as an arrangement of controls with open architecture is formed, It naturally has reusable as well as reconfigurable flexible characteristics.Structures of open NC established at present are mostly based on PC's mature open architecture. However, NC system itself is a very integrated technology having apparent real-time control, real-time mutual communication and real-time monitoring characters which needs special material handling measures. There exists great limitations in architecture and performance on open NC based on PC. Whereas, Embedded System's explosion and widespread use make it possible to solve such limitations. So, this thesis focuses on building up an embedded NC experimental platform with open architecture. What the research does is to construct such experimental platform with hardware and software in order to make some tentative research on open NC with embedded architecture.The whole research is divided into five partitions including system architecture'smodel design, hardware platform's layout, Operation System design , application framework's buildup and research of motion control chip's controlling as well as its library function.According to demand analysis, we select the type of micro processor and motion control chip, bring up the overall architecture model of embedded NC system, introduce NC system's hardware structure and its circuit's design in detail;In the part of Operation System design,we analyses the mechanism of RT-Linux and the program model and the real-time character of embedded NC system, present multitask divide model as well as rational scheduling strategy of NC system, construct the basic structure of real-time application software based on RT-Linux platform;During the design of application framework, data management proposal is brought up in which data stream divided by data function and purpose;In the end, motion control chip's controlling and its library function is introduced in detail.
