The studies on molecular-scale electronic devices developed very rapidly recently. Linear conjugated metallic complexes are one of the models for the study of molecular wires and molecular switches. A study on the synthesis and properties of cobalt and ruthenium complexes with conjugated hydrocarbon chains was systematically carried out. The main results are as follows:1 The conjugated bimetallic complexes [CpRu(PPh3)2]2Cu-C=C-CH=CH-C=C) was successfully synthesized. Electrochemical study shows that the metals linked through the bridge interact with each other. Through the investigation of Near-IR Spectra, this compound is a typical class III "mixed-valence" compound with electronic delocalization.2 Co complexes have been successfully synthesized. The structure for these new compounds were fully characterized by elemental analysis and 1H NMR. The structure of η5- C5H5CoC5H5Ph has been confirmed by X-ray diffraction.3 The insertion reaction of RuHCl(CO)(PPh3)3 and allene have been studied further. The result shows that four air-sensitive ruthenium complexes were obtained effectively in CH2Cl2. Electrochemical study shows that the metals linked through the bridge have not interact with each other.
