Powder metallurgy is a technique, which uses metallic and non-metallic powder to produce metallic material and parts through compction, sintering and post treatment, and which is used for forbricating high performance ferrous parts at a low cost. Gear forbicated by powder metallurgic process not only reduce cost greatly, also keep form tolerances, position tolerance and dimensional tolerance in consistent.This paper is researched on applications and developments of high performance iron-based powder metallurgical spur-gear, which is based on forming principle and sintering mechanism. These following research steps have been completed:Firstly, this paper is study of high performance iron-based powder metallurgical gear. Based on the forming principle of powder metallurgy parts, we have researched on mould desigh method of powder metallurgy involute spur-gear, established mathematic model of gear technological parameter, and designed involute spur-gear mould to improve gear intensity and accurancy.Secondly, this paper is study of high performance and low cost iron-based powder metallurgical gear material. Based on the engineer testing of Fe-2.0Cu-0.8C, Fe-1.3Cu-0.8C-1.7Ni and Fe-1.3Cu-0.8C-1.7Ni-0.5Mo, we have researched pressing and sintering performance of obvious different powder metallurgy material, effection on its sintering property by alloying agent.Finally, research and development of high performance powder metallurgy involute spur-gear. Based on previous research, we have carried on research and development of powder metallurgy automotive duplicate gear by desigh for material, determination of preparation process and desigh for forming mould, which successfully passed the benchmark test , wide applications of these parts will bring obvious social and economic benefits.
