ABSTRACT:In this paper, gear engagement principle and numerical simulation method are used to analyze and research on the modification of involute spur gear. The purpose is to explore the optimal gear modification so that the load capacity can be promoted and vibration and noise can be reduced when the gears are transmitting.Firstly, the tooth profile modification curve equation and tooth longitudinal modification curve equation of spur gears are deduced. The accurate parameterization models of involute spur gear and modification gear are established using Pro/E. According to this method, new gear models will be generated after entering gear parameters and modification parameters. The efficiency of the modification gear modeling is improved.Then the gear model is imported into FEM software to carry out contact mechanics numerical experiment analysis using ANSYS Workbench. Based on the boundary conditions and constraints load, analyze the transient dynamic conditions and research on the changes of gear surface contact stress during meshing process. Furthermore, Hertz formula is used for theoretical calculations so that the difference between numerical experiment and theoretical analysis can be figured out. Some basic disciplines of gear meshing process are obtained through numerical analysis. And this is the theoretical basis of gear modification.The general method of tooth profile modification is introduced in this paper. Use the FEM software to numerically simulation gear tooth profile modification. The results indicate that Walker modification curve has better effects than linear modification curve. And the effects of different amount of modification are compared.It is found through numerical experiment that the asymmetry assemblies may lead to the unbalance load of the tooth longitudinal. And the existing drum modification cannot achieve good modification effect. The quadratic curve and cubic curve for tooth to modification is proposed in this paper. Through the analysis of the simulation results of three kinds of curve, the two new curves have been improved obviously compared to drum curve. Among them cubic curve modification effect is best.Matlab is used to compile the modification calculation software. This software, which greatly improves the design efficiency, can quickly work out the maximum modification amount.
