For improving the hemocompatibility of the materials surface micro-pattern fabrication technology is a significant method to promote the adherence and proliferation of endothelial cells on materials. Nowadays, the surface micro-pattern technique has become an important modification method for biomaterials. Due to the remarkable hemocompatibility and potential advantages of endothelial cells (ECs) adherence behavior, Ti-0 films are widely applied in surface modification of biomaterials. In this paper, micro-grooves and grid titanium and Ti-0 films were fabricated by laser light sculpt or unbalanced magnetron sputtering deposition. For unbalanced magnetron sputtering deposition, Ti and Ti-0 films were first prepared on Si (100) by unbalanced magnetron sputtering, and then micro-patterns were synthesized by sputtering through covering the masks. Changing the masks the different patterns were fabricated. The films with different surface properties such as hydrophilic/hydrophobic, amorphous/crystalline were fabricated by changing deposition parameters before and after covering masks. Optic microscope, scan electron microscope (SEM) and three-dimensional meter surface profile were used to investigate the surface morphology of Ti-0 films. The surface structure was analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The contact angle of relevant micro-pattern films were tested, in addition, the surface energy, including the polar component, the dispersive component and the interface tension were calculated. The result indicated that the surface with micro-pattern is preferable hydrophilicity and the ratio of polar component anddispersive component increased. At the same time, the interface tension between the films and biological substances decrease sharply. The surface contact angle of titanium alloy before and after carved was tested. The contact angle of surface with grid micro-patterns obviously decreased but the contact angle of surface with micro-grooves had few alteration in our research. When the rutile and titanium dioxide with the mixture of rutile titanium oxide and anatase were exposed to ultraviolet (UV) radiation for some time, the wettability was increased in water and oil. As the exposure time increased, the contact angle between water and films was smaller. To some extent, when the samples were laid in dark for some time, the contact angle of water and oil was increased. The result indicated that ultraviolet(UV) radiation induced titanium oxide wetting in water and oil and the process is reversible. The blood compatibility and cyto-compatibility in endothelial cells of Ti-0 film were studied by observing the number and morphology of platelet and cells. The results indicate that micro-pattern can improve the blood compatibility and influence the growth and proliferation of endothelial cells even inducing the growth of the endothelial cells. They will induce the growth of the endothelial cells. The hydrophilic/ hydrophobic, amorphous/crystalline of titanium oxide films have better blood compatibility.
