China is under increasing pressure of water shortage and water pollution. Rational use of water resources and searching for environment-friendly technology to promote sustainable economic and social development in our country have become more importantly. Compared with conventional techniques, constructed wetlands which have many prominent features, such as high efficiency, low investment and low operating cost, low-technology, good water quality, environmental benefits, is consistent with the requirements of new technology.As a complete ecosystem, constructed wetland is made of water, medium, vegetation, microbe and animal, it can be divided into 3 types, surface flow constructed wetland, subsurface flow constructed wetland and vertical flow constructed wetland. Constructed wetland realize effective wastewater purification utilizing multi-ecosystem's cooperation process of physical, chemical and biological through filtration, adsorption, deposition, ion exchange, vegetation assimilation and microorganism decomposition. It belongs to a kind of ecological technology of wastewater treatment.The author introduced the concept, classification and the decontaminate mechanism of constructed wetland in this paper. Through the analysis of the water situation, water pollution, natural conditions, economic conditions, technological strength and pollution characteristics in Jining areas, summed up that the use of constructed wetlands in Jining City is feasible.This paper takes the constructed wetland in the wastewater treatment in Jining city as sample site. Experimental results indicate that:(1) The removal rates of the SFW on CODcr, NH3-N, TN, TP etc. are: 31.38%, 45.02%, 45.9%, 31.2%.(2) As the CODcr consistency of inflow was 7484.6mg/L, the removal rates of CODcr heightened with the increase of CODcr consistency and lowered remarkably when the CODcr consistency exceeded 84.6 mg/L, in a similar way, the removal rates of TP heightened with the increase of TP consistency. On the contrary, the removal rates of NH3-N and TN lowered with the increase of their consistency of inflow.(3) With the rising of water's temperature, the removal of the pollutants is trended to increase.(4) Plants for the removal NH3-N play an important role.(5) Fallen leaves are the major reasons of lower dissolved oxygen content in the wetland.According to the results, the paper indicated the shortcoming of wetlands and measure of improves. Experimental results for the construction of Xinxue River constructed wetlands demonstration projects provided important references.The technique of constructed wetlands need to be widely studied and useful study data aimed at different area, climate conditions and wastewater need to be obtained so that can accelerate wide use of constructed wetland in properly areas in China.
