Organic light-emitting diodes (OLED) attached importance by the related science realmextensively. At the mean time, organic photovoltaic (OPV) becomes a research hotspotbecause the cells can be made with low cost, simple for techniques, and easy for large scale, itis anticipated to develop a new way for the application of solar energy or photo-detector. Dueto the same structure for organic electroluminescence (OEL) devices and OPV cells, it ispossible for one device possesses characteristics of either OEL or OPV functions.In this thesis, some basic research work is carried out based on OEL and OPVcharacteristics. First, dipyrido[3,2-a:2′,3′-c]phenazine (DPPZ), tris(dibenzoylmethanato) (dipy-rido[3,2-a:2′,3′-c]phenazine)europium(III) Eu(DBM)3(DPPZ) and tris-(2-thenoyltrifluoroa-cete) (dip-yrido [3,2-a:2′,3′-c] phenazine) europium(III) Eu(TTA)3(DPPZ) were synthesized.A multilayer device with the configuration of indium-tin oxide (ITO)/N,N′-Bis(3-methylphenyl)-N,N′-diphenyl)benzidine(TPD)( 50 nm)/Eu(DBM)3(DPPZ): 4,4′--N,N′-dicarbazolebipheny(lCBP) ( 4.5%, 30 nm)/2,9-dimethy-4,7-diphenyl-1,10 -phenanthroline(BCP) (30 nm)/ tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum (AlQ)( 25 nm)/LiF (1nm)/Al( 120nm) exhibited Eu3+ based red emission with a highest brightness of 241 cd/m2 at 24 V and0.12 lm W-1 at 0.2 mA. Last, an OPV device, in which Eu(DBM)3(DPPZ) andEu(TTA)3(DPPZ) were used as electron-accepter. Under UV light ( 2 mW/cm2), Device A:ITO/PEDOT: PSS ( 20 nm)/m-MTDATA ( 30 nm)/ Eu(DBM)3DPPZ ( 60 nm)/LiF (1 nm)/Al( 100 nm),Device B:ITO/PEDOT: PSS (20 nm)/m-MTDATA (30 nm) / Eu(TTA)3DPPZ( 60 nm)/LiF (1 nm)/Al (100 nm) the short-circuit current(Isc), and the overall powerconversion efficiency of the OPV devices were 0.08mA/cm2, 2%, 0.07mA/cm2, 1.8%.From our study, we can draw the conclusion the structures of OLED and OPV device aresimilar, but they are the opposite processes in the efficiency. This conclusion gives good basisand reference for the choice of materials in this field.
