The amorphous granular activated carbon was prepared with steam activation from Ginkgo biloba. L. timber through carbonization and activation, according to orthogonal tests, studied the technology of how to made activated carbon using Ginkgo woods initially, which has a fairly developed specific surface area and a good absorptivity. And using this active carbon, through the discussion on the static test, studied on the adsorption of the poisonous gas and the heavy metals in wastewater. And studied the organic components of the Ginkgo wood vinegar which was investigated with GC/MS in detail, and the effects of wood vinegar to bud bursting and seedling growth of crops. The results as these:(1) Ginkgo wood is a good raw material for preparing the amorphous granular activated carbon. The activated carbon has these properties: adsorb ability of iodine more than 1070mg/g, methylene blue more than 14mL/0.1g. Through the test, the better technology conditions are as follows: carbonizing temperature 500550℃, activating temperature 800~850℃, activating time 40~60min, and the amount of water 100~120mL/70g carbon.(2) The activated carbon have fairly developed pore structure, high specific surface areas and pore volume. Besides of developed micropore, the activated carbon also have developed mesopore.(3) The activated carbon which prepared from Ginkgo wood had good adsorb ability of formaldehyde, benzene, chloroform, and ammonia four gases, especial formaldehyde, the adsorbing yield of formaldehyde reached to 140%. The adsorption capacities of these four gases is: formaldehyde> chloroform > benzene> ammonia.(4) The adsorption of heavy metals on activated carbon was good, the absorptivity of Pb2+ could reach to 200mg/g, and Cd2+ reached to more than 90mg/g. And the different conditions, such as shaking time, ion concentration, pH value and ion competitive absorption had effects on absorptivity, but the adsorptive time had no influence.(5) Ginkgo wood vinegar was a kind of quite complicated compounds, which include water, organic acid, phenol compound, alkanet compound, alcohol compound and so on. Ginkgo wood vinegar constituents are various from the carbonizing temperatures.(6) The wood vinegar of Ginkgo had high effects on buds bursting and seedlings growth of crops. It had obvious difference between different concentrations, different crops. Besides, wood vinegar of different carbonizing temperatures had different effects on buds bursting and seedlings growth of crops.
