The repair support of fracture zone in steep layer is a hard problem needed to be solved in many coal mines recently. The fracture rock of South-4 Main Transportation Roadway of Taiping Coalmine serves as the research object in the paper. Through the field experiment, simulating model test, numerical simulation and the theoretical analysis, the deformation and failure mechanism of fracture rock roadway in steep layer are studied. Based on simulating model test and situ-observation analysis, the main failure character of entry is obtained. The distortion and destruction of main roadway start from the coal seam and take on asymmetric distortion and destruction. Using RFPA2D numerical calculation software, the rock environment of South-4 Main Transportation Roadway is simulation. By the sequence of firstly loading, then caving, the process of failure and collapse are presented. The asymmetric distortion and destruction are analyzed. It is found that the failure zone occurs along weak coal seam and the mechanism of roadway failure and displacement is discovered to be tension and shear failure along layer bedding and weak seam. Furthermore, the roadway proper repair support method is put forward. This research can give reference to such engineering. Finally, the conclusion is tested and verified by practical examples analyzing.
