Practice and theory study in shallow seam indicate: failure of overlying rock will turn up in shallow seam mining, that will brings the serious influence originally on the frail ecological environment, thick seam mining will be able to have a more tremendous influence, and the study has carried a lot, but the research about the failure of overlying rock in mining shallow thick coal seam by slicing method carried seldom. In this paper, the Failure of Overlying Rock in Mining Shallow Thick Coal Seam by slicing method is studied in details with four methods as following: field testing, simulating model test, numerical simulation and theoretical analysis. Simulation experiment has been made in 1-2 coal seam Huo Jitu Mine, study on rules of overlying strata failure and distortioncircs, the study indicate: when mining the top seam, the flaw belt develop to surface, when mining the second seam, the pressure of goaf will be diminished, the height of collapsing will be raised, the distance of roof collapsed will be reduction, the mechanics relation of collapsed rock will be relented. Apply the numerical simulations program RFPA to study that, numerical simulation has been made in shallow thick coal seam with slicing method, simulation experiment gained the adults show that, in the recovery process, when mines after on lamination, the coal column two sides edges withstand the pressure already surpassed the compressive strength, the explanation in picked the depletion region to break down falls in the process the coal column edge to have the part already to submit, the length was approximately, when on the lower slice arrangement along trough should pay attention avoids this section to submit the area.
