As the third generation of supramolecular hosters, calixarenes have been used as the platforms for so many types of chemical research, in which p-butylcalix[n]arenes have attracted much attentions. Calix[4]resorcinarenes represent an important class of synthetic host molecules and have versatile applications in supramolecular chemistry such as complex extraction, molecular devices, molecular recognition, self-assembly and nano materials. But calixarene-based metal complexes have been comparably less studied and remain as one of much potential valuable research fields. In this thesis we initiated the studies of the synthesis of calix[4]resorcinarene polydentate ligands, preparation of polynuclear metallic complexes and selective recogination for cations. A series of significant results and developments have been achieved and the main interesting results are as follows:1.
