Four kinds of dicyclopentadiene(DCPD)-modified epoxy resin were synthesized starting from phenol, cresol, t-butyl phenol and anaphthol with dicyclopentadiene respectively. DCPD-containing phenolic resin (DPR) was prepared via Friedel-Crafts alkylation and DCPD-containing epoxy resin (DER) was prepared via epoxidation of DPR with epichlorohydrin. Their chemical structure were characterized with FTIR spectroscopy, ESI-MS and GPC analyses. The epoxy value, viscosity, and chloric content of DCPD-modified epoxy resin were examed.Using MeHHPA as curing agent, their cure behaviors were evaluated by FT-IR. When the curing temperature is 180°C, the yield of the opening of epoxy group obtain 92% after 3.5h. Using 651 as curing agent, the suitable curing temperature is 45-55°C. Using 593 as curing agent, the suitable curing temperature is 50-70°C.The thermal stabilities of cured resins from the mixture of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A(E51) and DER were identified by differential scanning calorimeter(DSC). Compared to that of E51, cured polymer of DER + E51 resin showed higher glass transition temperature (Tg).
