How to design the structure of the appropriate component dyes for a reactive black dye is lacking of a profound theoretical background up to this moment Although the knowledge of supramolecular chemistry has been applied bom in dye and dyeing areas to certain extent, but only on occasion. Dye and dyeing chemists have recently concentrated their attention to the study of dyeing parameters from which the performances of a dye are described. However, the design of the dye structure for a reactive black and other dye components, should dependent on supramolecular chemistry inspiration.The production of Reactive Black GR and G2R, is in the largest scope of commercial reactive dyes. But the quality of these dyes was not satisfied. Based on the study of their dyeing performance and the molecular structure of a series of red and yellow component dyes for black dyes together with the navy component, C.I. Reactive Black 5 was then designed and synthesized.Some measures had been taken in dye synthesis. An appropriate dispersant was selected to reduce the viscosity of the solution during diazotization of 4-sulfato-ethyl-sulfonyl-aniline by a "low acid ratio" method. The synthetic conditions for intermediate 2-sulfomethyl- amino-5-hydroxy-7-naphthalene sulfonic acid were optimized by the orthogonal experiment method. Both the yields and purity of sulfomethylated J acid were higher than 93%.A series of Reactive Black dyes were obtained from above component dyes, which displaced a deep black shade, very good compatibility and a high level in dyeing. A group of dyeing parameters of three primary dyes to be available for formulating a realistic reactive black dye is obtained as follows:1). The differences of the I/O values of the component dyes should be less man 15%;2). The solubility of the component dyes should be more than 80g/L in water at...
