Micro-capsulated Red phosphorus (MRP ) coated by EVA, the coating amountof EVA used to promote the surface property of red phosphorus and the influence of MRP used as flame retardant adding to PP have been studied. The result showed that the better property is gained at coating 5-10 phr of EVA when MRP adding to PP. At the same time, the effects of different content of MRP on PP and blending ratio of PP(HJ145) and PP (EPS30R) on flame- retardant material were studied. It showedthat MRP coated by EVA is valid for PP, when the composites contain 5 phr of MRP, FV-0 can be attained in test of vertical combustion, but its mechanical property is deteriorated, and Oxygen index isn't high enough. Blending ratio of HJ145 and EPS30R affects composites' mechanical property, but it changes the property of MRP flame-retarded polypropylene hardly. Mechanical property of MRP flame-retarded polypropylene composites is improved by POE and LDPE. It is discovered that the best effect of improving the mechanical property of MRP/PP composites is attained when the contents of LDPE and POE are 13 phr and 5 phr, respectively. The thermal degradation of flame-retarded polypropylene composites containing Micro-capsulatedRed phosphorus (MRP ) has been studied by thermogravimetric analysis. TheOzawamethod and Kissinger methods were used to calculate the apparent activationenergy (Ea) of the degradation of PP composites. The TG and FTIR studies show that addition of MRP to PP improves the thermo-oxidative stability at higher temperatures.
