Electromagnetic stirring(EMS) is an effective solidification control technique of improving the solidification structure, expanding equiaxed zone and eliminating macrosegregation and reduce center cavitation and crack. Therefore, study the rule of ameliorating solidification structure with EMS to abtain more refined and homogeneous solidification structure, which is of great benefit to the improvement of the mechanical performance of new generation steel materials.This paper investigate the rule of linear EMS in molten steel during the solidification process by theoretical an experiments.Based on the electromagnetic theory, analyze the character of electromagnetic force using two linear electromagnetic stirrers which were designed by our department. Investigate the rule of electromagnetic force and how the different parameter of casting and stirring influnce the solidification structure. Check up the stirring effect of new electromagnetic stirrer.The electromagnetic force decays rapidly in the molten steel, and its decaying speed is related to the current frequency and polar pitch of the stirrer. The max electromagnetic force related to the I2 ( I is the electric current intensity in loop of stirrer) when the stirrer and the frequency of current are fixed.This research used two same linear electromagnetic stirrers . Measuring the magnetic field intensity in different areas and current: (1) The two stirrers have different magnetic field direction; (2) The two stirrers have different way of combination. Obtain the regression equation by using Origin 7.0 software.Do hot state cast experimentation with 60Si2Mn steel and Si steel using selfdesgined stainless steel mold (model : real billet =1:1, simulate 150mm×150mm billet). Research the stirring effect on billet solidification structure and segregation of carbon element and inclusions with EMS in different casting parameter and stirring parameter. Mainly research results are:(1) Through electromagnetic stirring the crystal grain has been thined and the equiaxed rate enhanced from 85% to 93%.(2) EMS decrease the diameter of cavitation and make the cavitation spread around, and then improve the quality of billet.(3) EMS decrease the index exponent of center segregation of carbon element from 1.109and 1.154 to 1.030and 1.032.(4) EMS can wipe off big inclusions which diameter over 100μm and reduce the grade of inclusions from 4.3~5.5 to 3.1~3.6.(5) The output power of induce booster has been astricted due to dry transformer structure question.
