Abstract: The Micro-arc Oxidation process of ZL108 Al alloy in the neutral solution was studied in this article in virtue of the self-made MAO-100KW micro-arc oxidation equipment. The effect of solutions, electrical parameters and the manipulative mode of electrical parameters on the process of micro-arc oxidation and micro-arc oxidation ceramic layers was studied. The contents and its distributing law of the micro-arc oxidation ceramic layers were analyzed by Riqaku D/max-2200 XRD equipment. The micro surface shape and hardness of micro-arc oxidation ceramic layers were analyzed used separately JSM-5800 SEM and 71-hardness test equipments. The treated cylinders of 1E36F-2A engines were tested on the special test equipment. The result shows that the ceramic layers with high hardness of 1605HV can be obtained by micro-arc oxidation in the appropriate neutral solutions; to certain extent, can the Na2WOP4 increase the micro hardness of micro-arc oxidation ceramic layers in neutral solutions; The main content of the ceramic layers by micro-arc oxidation in neutral solutions are α,γalumina and a few of unknown alumina; the surface of the micro-arc ceramic layers is made up of a grate deal of cone-platforms with small a hole in center and there is much of micro crack between and through the cone-platforms; the maxim of the voltage in the Micro-arc oxidation process is higher, the content of a-alumina is larger, the surface roughness of micro-arc oxidation layers are higher and the micro crack in the surface of micro-arc oxidation layers also is more; The treated cylinders of 1E36F-2A engines can work normally. Some new opinions are brought forward in the article. Example: we can control the characters of the micro-arc oxidation layer more conveniently use the steady-voltage model; the surface hardness of the micro-arc oxidation layers can be measured by use of the 71-optics micro sclerometer, after the Gold sputtering treated; the micro plasma discharge model is build in this study; the mechanical properties is tested on thespecial engine test equipment.
