Two series of seventeen solid complexes of rare earth chloride and six different proportion co-doped complexes(Eu3+: La3+) with β -naphthoyltrifluoroacetone and 2,2'-bipyridine have been synthesized and characterazied. Moreover, the crystal stucture of the complex(Eu3+:La3+=0. 3:0. 7) has been determined.Elemental analysis, rare earth coordination titration and TG-DTA studies show that the complexes have the composition of Eu0.5Ln0.5(TFNB)3bpy ? H2O (Ln3+=Y3+, La3+, Gd3+, Sm3+, Tb3+, Dy3+, Ho3+, Pr3+, Er3+, Nd3+) ; Sm0.5RE0.5(TFNB)3bpy ? H2O (RE3+=Y3+, La3+, Gd3+), (EuxLay)(TFNB)3bpy ? H2O(x:y=0. 10:0. 90; 0. 30:0. 70;0. 40:0. 60;0. 70:0. 30;0. 90:0. 10). The molar conductivity indicates that all the complexes are nonelectrolyte ; IR spectra and 1HNMR spectra show that the ligands coordinate with RE3+ ions through the oxygen negative ion of enol form in TFNB and two nitrogen atoms of 2,2'-bipyridine. Fluorescence spectra and fluorescence lifetimes show that the fluorescent intensity and lifetime of a series of...
