Four series of twenty-two solid complexes of rare earth with 1,3, 5- benzene trixcarboxylic acid and 1,10-phenanthroline have been synthesized and characterazied. In addition, solid complexes doped with different proportional rare earth ions and nano-sized rare earth complexes have been synthesized.Elemental analysis, rare earth coordination titration and TG-DTA studies show that the complexes have the composition of REL·6H2O (H3L=BTC, RE3+=Sm3+,Eu3+,Tb3+,Dy3+),EuMLCl2(C2H5OH)n·2H2O{M=Cd (n=2.5), M=Zn, Mn, Ni (n=2) },TbMLCl2(C2H5OH)2·2H2O,RE LL'1.5·2H2O (H3L=BTC, L'=phen, RE3+=Sm3+,Eu3+,Tb3+,Dy3+), RE0.5Ln0.5LL'1.5·3H2O (RE3+=Eu3+,Tb3+; Ln3+=La3+,Gd3+,Y3+),RE0.5Ln0.5(HL)L'CM/2H2O(RE3+=Tb3+; Ln3+=Gd3+,Y3+) and (TbxYy)(HL)L'Cl·1/2H2O (x:y=0.10:0.90; 0.30:0.70; 0.70:0.30; 0.90:0.10). IR spectra and UV spectra show that the rare earth ions are bounded with the oxygen atoms of trimesic acid and with the nitrogen atoms of 1,10-phenanthroline. TEM show that nano-sized terbium(Ⅲ)-trimesic acid complex has been prepared in polyviny lpyrrolidone. Fluorescence spectra indicate that the complexes can emit characteristic fluorescence from rare earth ion (Sm3+,Eu3+,Tb3+,Dy3+ ).The fluorescent intensity of nano-sized terbium(Ⅲ)-trimesic acid complex is stronger than common terbium(Ⅲ)-trimesic acid complex's.The fluorescence intensities of Eu3+ or Tb3+ ion are enhanced by doped method.In addition, the influence of difference proportional co-doped ions has been discussed, too.
