Semi-solid metal processing resorted to a good many advantage such as compact structure, higher mechanic property, longer die using life, and near net-shape production arose researchers'attentions. Semi-solid metal processing needs consummate both in theory and technics although it has been commercially applied in many developed countries. Many reports which had been published solved the filling process according to the stress-strain relationship, just a few of them solved the fluid field by means of the relationship between shear rate and viscosity.This paper aim at the actuality, compiled computer software code based on SOLA-VOF algorithm according to different viscosity model and shear rate arithmetic, simulated the filling process in the casting die cave of semi-solid slurry.In this paper, semi-solid filling process has been discussed under the constant viscosity model. It has been demonstrated that constant viscosity model can be applied to the simulation of filling process. But in the whole filling process, the shear rate is changing with velocity and time, that's to say: in the whole process, viscosity is changing. So that , it's necessary to add the changing viscosity models into the numerical simulation code.The most important factors in which that affected the apparent viscosity of semi-solid slurry are shear rate and solid fraction. It has been proved in this paper, both shear rate algorithm according to the theory of no-Newtonian rheological model and the method that take shear rate as vector can give out the satisfied fluid flow field. When it comes to the choice of viscosity models, stable state viscosity model and unstable state viscosity model of AZ91D and stable state model of A356 has been used. According to the conditions had been told, the simulation result fit well with the research reports had been gotten.
