Magnesium alloys have attractive many investigators'attention because of their good properties such as high strength/density ratio, low density and excellent capacity of damping. However, because of its hexagonal close pack structure, magnesium has poor workability at room temperature, now its forming ability tend to be progressed through fine-grained microstructure. Although it was a trend to develop new magnesium alloys of high properties, mechanical properties of existed magnesium alloy could be improved by appropriate processing.Cold drawing and recrystallization were the effective ways to improve mechanical properties. Through optimal annealing processing, fine-grained AZ31 magnesium wire with high mechanical properties can be obtained. The discussing result is significant for the production of AZ31 magnesium wire.Because crack can arise during drawing, few basic researches about magnesium alloy could be found. Therefore some work on drawing and recrystallization was done, so that fine-grained wire could be achieved. Researches showed that, with decreasing of grain size, the maximal cumulative deformation increased, cumulative deformation of 65.1% could be achieved, the relationships between original grain size and cold deformation, the size of recrystallized grain and the recrystallization temperature were investigated.
