Development Of Motorized-Spindle For Bonnet Tool Polishing Machine

Ultra-smooth surface of optical components can be obtained by Ultra-precision grinding, single-point diamond turning & polishing. Especially, polishing is used very widely. Bonnet tool polishing is a novel and advanced polishing method, which can realize quantitative removing of optical surface.The key technologies of bonnet tool polishing include: polishing machine technology, polishing process parameter optimization & polishing digital control algorithm. Among them, polishing machine is the equipment of polishing, so it is the fundament of the study of polishing technology. And polishing spindle is one of the key parts of polishing machine. It is not only the polishing tool, but also a part of processing mechanism. Motorized-spindle is the mechanism unit which integrates spindle & motor. It can meet inimitable movement demand of bonnet tool polishing. Aiming at the development of polishing motorized-spindle, the follows have been accomplished in this paper.Firstly, the basic principle and character of bonnet tool polishing, polishing process flow and processing polishing movement are elaborated in this paper. Based on theses, the influence that polishing machine effects on surface quality is analyzed, and then the requirement to polishing spindle is acquired.Secondly, according to the distinctive demand of bonnet tool polishing, the motorized-spindle system is designed and manufactured. The details are as follows: design & choice of the electromotor; choice & configuration, lubrication, localization & preloading of the bearings; cooling of motorized-spindle system, etc.Lastly, by performance testing experiment, such as rotate speed, rotate accuracy, static stiffness, temperature rise etc, we can verify and assess the motorized-spindle unit. The experiment results show that it has got the function requirement planned.
