Chapter 1: Calixarenes, emerging appeared after crown ethers and cyclodextrins as the third generation of host molecules, have the characters of special structure and easy derivation. This chapter introduces the structure and characters of calixarene and the application of it and its derivatives in the recognition of metal ions, anion ions and organic molecules. Chapter 2: The recognition function of the tetracarboxyl-phenyl Calix[4]arene, the tetraphenyl calix[4]arene and the monomer of the tetracarboxyl-phenyl Calix[4]arene for metal ions was investigated based on fluoresent spectra. The association constants between the three host molecule and metal ions were determined by the Stern-Volmer equation and the non-linear least squares. The stoichiometry was determinated by using equimolar variation method. The results showed that the tetracarboxyl-phenyl Calix[4]arene had high selectivity for Fe3+ and the stoichiometry were 1:2 and 2:1. But the tetraphenyl calix[4]arene could not combinate with any metal ion. The monomer of the tetracarboxyl-phenyl calix[4]arene also had selectivity for Fe3+ but the combination was weaker than the tetracarboxyl-phenyl calix[4]arene.Chapter 3: The interactions of the tetraamide Calix[4]arene with F, CH3COO, C6H5COO, H2PO4, HSO4, Cl-, Br-, I-were investigated based on fluorescent spectra. The association constants were determined by theStern-Volmer equation and the non-linear least squares. The stoichiometry was determinated by using equimolar variation method. The results indicated that the tetraamide Calix[4]arene had high selective recognition for F" as compared to other anions. The host and F" formed 1:4 complex but 1:1 complex with other anions.Chapter 4: The interactions of the monomer of tetraamide Calix[4]arene with F\ CH3COO\ C6H5COO\ H2PO4\ HSO4\ Cl\ Br\ I'were investigated based on fluorescent spectra and compared the recognition ability of it for anions to the tetraamide Calix[4]arene. The results indicated that the monomer had selectivity for F" and the stoichiometry was 1:2 between it and F" but the combination was weaker than the tetraamide Calix[4]arene. Chapter 5: The mechanism of the interaction between the functionalized calix[4]rene and ions were discussed by 1FINMR. The results indicated that the functionalized calix[4]arene reacted with ions by their functional groups but not the cavity of the calix[4]arene.
