In this dissertation, Genetic Algorithms (GA) are applied to the layout optimization of composite laminate plates, composite laminate panels with multi-lumped mass and spring supports and the composite laminate camera mount. The stacking sequence as the design variable and the maximization of the first natural frequency as the objective function are considered in this optimum design. Several measures are applied to GA with the purpose of improving its disadvantages, which are verified by the numerical examples. At first, the method of composite material optimization and the status quo of GA are investigated. Then, based on the anisotropy elastic mechanics, the rigidity of composite laminate plates are educed for calculating the rigidity coefficients of symmetrical laminate plates. Afterwards the foundations, advantages and basic process of GA are simply introduced.According to the theoretics above, GA is applied to the optimum design of rectangular composite laminate plates with four edges pinned or one edge clamped and other three edges pinned, and the parameters in which are reasonable set. Some improvements are proposed and corresponding numerical examples are presented. After that, a rectangular composite laminate panel with multi-lumped mass and spring supports is optimized using modified GA, and the first natural frequency is calculated according to the conversation of energy in this problem. At last, using finite element analyse software, the composite laminate camera mount is simply optimized aiming at maximizing its first natural frequency, which has an increase of 28.88%.
