In order to improve the continuous casting(CC) efficiency, in recent years, the domestic and international metallurgists took a serious action on strengthening and enlarging the tundish metallurgical function. The important measures were that the appropriate flow control devices and turbulence inhibitor were installed to form reasonable flow pattern, which not only made the inclusions well floated but also created the advantageous condition to uniform the molten steel temperature and composition.In this paper, according to the fact of No.1 billet CC tundish at Chongqing Iron and steel (group) Company Ltd, the physical and mathematical simulation method were investigated to make certain the best turbulence inhibitor installed in the tundish which has flow control devices. The experiment model, which was 1/3 of the prototype and was made of Plexiglas, was built and the experiments were done based on the Frpude similarity and by similarity principle. The mathematical model, describing the flow phenomena in the tundish, was established according as the continuity equation, N-S equation, K equation, s equation and energy equation, meanwhile the FLUENT commercial software was used to calculate.It was found that the reasonable turbulence inhibitor had an important effect on the improvement of flow pattern in No.l billet CC tundish by physical and mathematical simulation. The reasonable flow pattern was coming into being and the metallurgical effect was exerted by setting the reasonable turbulence inhibitor. In the all of the turbulence inhibitor, the number 5# is the best one for the increase of residence time and the improvement of flow pattern in tundish with a simple barricade; the number 7# is the best one for multihole barricade. So the case of 5# and 7# was applied to the No.1 billet CC tundish in CISCO, for industrial experiment.The movement of inclusion in tundish was explored. The eliminate condition in different control flow system was simulated by physical experiment. And the movement trace of the inclusion particles, the diameter of them were 5μm, 50μm and 75μm, were drawed by mathematical simulation. The result shows the inclusion particles could floate well in tundish with reasonable turbulence inhibitor, the diameter of them were 50μm and 75μm .And a part of the 5μm inclusion particles also rise well and were absorded by the casting slag on the surface of molten steel.
