Kudingcha has been used in folk medicine and drunk as a tea substitute, it has many health protection efforts. Kudingcha distributes widely among the south and southwest of China. Fifteen species plants which belongs to nine families were reportes as original plants of Kudingcha. It has been used for 2000 years by the people. Kudingcha which distributed in Guizhou Province is identified as Ligustrum robustrum; and the plants distributed among Zhejiang, Hainan and Guangdong is identified as Ilex latifolia Thumb. The plants in Sichuan and Chongqing is identified as Southwest Kudingcha which includes Ligustrum purpurascens, Iigustrum pricei and Ligustrum henryi.In Sichuan Yibin,Dujiangyan; Yunnan Yanjin, Dongchuan; Chongqing Youyang, Qijiang, the manufacture of Kudingcha has a long history of 100 years. In 90s of 21century, people in Yinbin and Youyang has made excellent Kudingcha by plucking tender leaves of plants, the product is featured in green including dry tea, boiled water and leafage. It is in great favor to custmers. In 2002 the price rose to 400~1000RMB/kg. because of good economic benefits, four provinces in Southwest has newly developed 20000 hektares recently, and area of planting increases steadily. With the calefaction both in manufacturing and consuming of Kudingcha in Southwest, many manufacturers begin to invest fund in Kudingcha industry. It goes without saying that this will make great efforts in bracing up our tea economy and promoting the course of industry structure regulation in country. But till now there is few criterion of Southwest Kudingcha, then it gives many obstacles in market managing, consumption inducting and produce planning. Market was congests with fake products. Healthy development of Kudingcha industry was seriously affected. The price reduces to 100~200 RMB/kg in June, 2003. This complexion does not accomodate the increasing need of export and commercial operation after China s entrance of WTO. So confirmation of a industry standard of Southwest Kudingcha is in great need in order to make it develop smoothly.Kudingcha is not as good as green tea in aspect of color and aroma.
