Based on the investigation of climatic change rule and social economy characteristic of the interest region, the paper study the desertification causes . Investigation showed that the meteorological factor is an important cause for yanqing desertification. Especially in wind velocity, the strong wind blow across the region, erosed the surface soil, accelerate the erode of soil materials .Second, the abolished land is an important factor which caused the desertification .plant on the abolished land make the soil materials bareness, With the wind erosion, soil fertility suffered severe loss and become very the poverty, aggravate the desertification.Based on the causes of desertification of yanqing kangzhuang area and a lots date we have investigated, the author build a new desertification integrated assessment index system, and evaluated the desertification actuality by use the technology of RS and GIS. Eventually, we can gained a figure of desertification degree evaluation.Looked remote sensing image as data origin, through image correction, interpretation and such like, we gained the figures of land use type and vegetation coverage, and according to features of the study region, we build a new desertification integrated assessment index system, which looked land use type, soil type, vegetation coverage and the rate of soil water as assessment index. Aaccording to the index system, use superimpose function of GIS, evaluated the desertification actuality.Rresult indicated the total area of desertification is 519.28km~2, moderate and mild desertification area is about 82.4% of the total. That showed desertification of kangzheang area to a total extent is light, and reclamate difficulty is slight.
