Having some common character of organometallic chelate complex and liquid crystal, organometallic liquid crystal has become an important part of organic and inorganic chemistry. In particular, ferrocene-containing β-diketone transition metal complexes showed remarkable thermal stability and mesomorphic character. 1 '-long chain alkylferrocenyl-β-diketone was synthesized by esterification, the Friedel-Crafts, Clemmensen reduction ,hydrolysis, acylation reaction, based on ferrocenecarboxylic acid. And we have abtained four transition metal chelates by the reaction of l'-duodenary alkylferrocenyl-β-diketone with M(Ac)2 ? nH2O(M=Co, Ni, Cu, Zn) over catalyst NaH. The composition and the structure of all the new compounds have been characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectra, 1HNMR spectra and DTA-TG spectra. The IR spectra shows the characteristic absorptions of the |3-diketone (vc=c 1620cm-1, vc=o 1552 cm-1) in the transition metal chelate complex has shifted towards 1570cm-1 and 1515 cm-1 respectively.
