With the development of the scientific technology, liquid crystal has been used widely in science and industry. In particular, ferrocene-containing p-diketone transition metal complexes showed remarkable thermal stability and mesomorphic character. We mainly described the methods to synthesize 1,1 '-disubstituted alkylferrocenyl β-diketones which are the important intermediates.The 7 1,1'-disubstituted alkylacylferrocens (CnH2n+1-C5H4FeC5H4-COCH3, n=2~8) were synthesized by droping 1,1'-disubstituted alkylferrocenoyl chlorides (CnH2n+1-C5H4FeC5H4COCl,n=2~8) to ethyl acetoacetate. The condensation of the 7 compounds with ethyl acetate in sodium hydride led to 7 1,1 '-disubstituted alkylferrocenyl p-diketones ( CnH2n+1C5H4FeC5H4-COCH2COCH3, n=2~8). The properties of two series of compounds were studied. In addition, the appropriate methods of synthesis were investigated. The factors affecting the reaction, such as molar ratio, bases, solvents etc., were discussed , then the reaction conditions were confirmed. The structures of all the new compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, IR and 1HNMR.
