Room temperature vulcanized silicone elastomer (RTV) shows excellent properties. Despite those outstanding properties, the unreinforced silicone elastomer has poor mechanical properties and its tensile strength is only about 0.3MPa. So the silicone elastomer must be reinforced to improve its mechanical properties. This paper intend to prepare reinforced room temperature vulcanized silicone elastomer with glassy polymer.The main results are summarized as follows:(1) St and MAH copolymerized in PDMSLiteratures have reported that styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer(SMA) could be prepared by free radical copolymerization with BPO as initiator. This paper intend to prepare blends SMA/PDMS but experiments showed that precipitation occured when Styrene-Maleic anhydride copolymer(SMA) was prepared in PDMS directly. We mixed the styrene, maleic anhydride, methyl triethoxyl silane uniformly and dropped the mixture to PDMS. Styrene and maleic anhydride copolymerized in PDMS with BPO as initiator and the blends obtained are white gums without macroscopic phase separation even eight months later. The reinforced elastomer was prepared after the dibutyltindilaurate was added in as catalyzer.The results showed that the viscosities of the blends increased with the increased of the feed ratio Y (SMA/PDMS). The maximum of the tensile strength was 2.359MPa and the maximum of the elongation at break was 749.3%.(2) St and MALES copolymerized in PDMSFirst, we synthesized ethyl-(Meth-diethoxylsily)maleate(MALES) by the reaction of methyl triethoxyl silane with maleic anhydride and then Styrene and MALES copolymerized in PDMS with BPO as initiator and the blends obtained are white gums...
