Thiophene derivatives, as one of the most important classses of conjugated compounds, have been the focus of a number of older and more recent reviews, due to its prospect applications in conducting films, electrochromics and field-effect transistors. And β-diketones with its desirable ability in coordinating with many metal ions, have drawn considerable attentions, because of their novel topologies and fascinating structural diversities, as well as of their potential applications in optical, electrical, magnetic, and catalysis etc. In this paper, combining the thiophene derivative and β-diketone, a new tri(β-diketone) ligand was synthesized, and its metal complexes were also synthesized via supra molecular self-assembly andcharativized by IR, EMS, elemental analysis, ~1H NMR etc. Main contents of thispaper were stated in three parts, just as followed:In the first part, the recent progress of the thiophene derivatives have been reviewed, which were all based on the detailed investigation of relevant literatures The research progress and applications, especially about electrochromics, of rare earthion-β-diketone coordination polymers have also been reviewed. In the second part, a tri(β-diketone) ligand and its complexes were synthesized.and characterized by IR, EMS, elemental analysis, ~1H NMR etc.In the third part, the properties of all the compounds have been studied, such as optical properties, electric properties. And the relationships between structures and properties have been discussed in detail. In summary, the coordination compounds with tri(β-diketone) ligands are synthesized and studied by combining experimental results with theoretical calculation.
