With the development of modernized manufacturing industry, the quantity of parts which need to be machined increases. Drilling is one of general machine procedures. Its task is more and more. The demand of carbide drill are multiplied, accompanying with the requirement of tool, the production cost is increased enormously. After had gone to manufactory to conduct surveys for several time, I perceive that Railway dept.. is reconstructing and building foundation. Speedup of railway is just one of the crucial projects. The turnout is the important portion and one of weak tache in the structure of railway. The security of railroad transportation system is affected by the production quality of rail turnout. Drilling is the important working procedure in machining turnout, its quality seriously affects application of turnout. The wastage of drill is large in drilling ZGMn13 turnout. In order to reduce the production cost and satisfy the requirement of production quality, this paper study carbide drill drilling ZGMn13 railway turnout primarily.This thesis reviews developmental history and present situation on high manganese steel ZGMn13 and carbide tools, clarifies the basic property of the steel, and make its work hardening more clearly. For drilling the high manganese steel turnout, right carbide cutter type is selected. Grinding-clamp is designed on the base of the analytic result of grinding method. The drill's strength with different geometrical parameters is analyzed. Via experiments, analytical results are verified, and the main causes on the drill failure and affected elements on drill thrust are disclosed.In conventional research, to affirm drill configuration and its geometry parameters, a great deal experiments are needed, which not only cost too much times and expenditure but also lack scientific foundation.
