Friction coefficient and wear rate are important parameters of glass materials. Determining and understanding those parameters is significant for application of glasses. In this work, a new device for the tests of friction and wear was designed and machined. Material tester and friction-wear tester are two kinds of equipments, and they have different functions. This device works like a fixture in the material tester, and it is simple and convenient for measuring the friction coefficient and wear resistance of solid materials by using the universal tester as a working platform.Using this new testing device, cooperated with the testing device, we investigated the performance of friction and wear under different testing conditions. We measured the changing curve of friction coefficient under different load, speed, lubricating conditions and friction pair. The experimental results indicated that the friction coefficient of glass become smaller along with the increase of the load and speed under the condition of dry rubbing. And because of the different friction pair, friction coefficient changed. The friction coefficient of glass reduced under water-lubrication, and friction coefficient of steel balls/soda lime glass rubbed become smaller than zirconia ball/soda lime glass rubbed; we test the three kinds of materials of friction pairs, and received the changing curve of wear rate. The results indicate that the speed raised along with the increase of the speed, and the wear rate of soda lime glass rubbed with steel ball is largest, and wear rate of soda lime glass rubbed with zirconia ball is larger than strengthened glass rubbed with steel ball.We took the soda lime glass rubbed with steel ball as an example, and tested the bend strength of glass sample with two loop-clamp in the testing machine. The experimental results indicate that bend strength declined obviously along with the increase of the quantity of wear.We took the zirconia ball /soda lime glass and steel/ soda lime glass sample rubbed as an example ,and investigated the situation of the friction pair after wear with microscope, and received the macroscopical and microcosmic images...
