Polymers have been widely used in fields of electric and electronic insulation. Dupont corona-resistant polyimide films are a kind of new-style insulation. Now it acquires wide application in a few fields. However, no one knows the synthetic methods but Dupont company. Its structure and property have not been understood clearly. Polyimide wear-out and breakdown can occur under long-term electric stressing due to many different reasons, making their insulating life ended. Wear-out and breakdown of polymers are closely related to the dissipation of electrostatic energy in space charge region. Electro-luminescence (EL), which is considered as chemically very active states of excitated molecules, is one of electrostatic energy dissipating modes. It can be considered as a warning sign of material pre-breakdown and structure ageing. EL is an important experimental method of studying structures of trap and the store and transport of space charge controlled by the trap. So, we study the EL property of polyimide and inorganic nano-particle doped polyimide films, analyze their structure characteristics, to provide new method and scientific evidence for altering polyimide quality by doping nano-particles. It is significant for the study of EL mechanism of polymers.An experimental set was first manufactured for EL measurement of polymers home, including sample vacuum, electrode system, single photon counting system and other parts. A good method of preparing films as semitransparent electrodes was found. EL spectrum measuring system was assembled and debugged. Then EL in low density polyethylene, poly(ethylene terephthalate) and general polyimide films were tested by the set. The results showed that the set worked well, and could be used in EL study of many kinds of polymers.EL in Dupont corona-resistant inorganic nano-particle doped polyimide...
