Steel structure is one of the oldest structures in taller building throughout the world, which has a history of being used in practice about 100 years. Being compared with concrete structure, steel structure has some advantages such as, 1) it can conform to big room and be comparted conveniently, 2) the light slabs and composites plates assorted to steel structure can be made of new materials,which conform to save energy in construction, 3) the components and other corresponding members can be volume-manufactured, 4) the components can be recycle used which conform to the specification of environment, 5) the weight of steel structure is less than concrete so that it can lower the cost of base, 6) due to the finished products of components, the cycle of construction will be reduced which will lead to reduce the time fund being occupied. From above all, there is high potential to research and develop constructional steel, especially the functional steel and metal matrix composites.More damping components are requested in the aseismic design based the energy being dissipated. But most of the constructional steel components are not directly used for damping because of their low damping property. In light of this, we bring forward to research and develop high damping steel materials and metal matrix composites. Here, we research the structural design and the damping property of 16Mn Steel/Zinc laminated composites.In this paper, we select 16Mn steel and Zinc as raw materials to fabricate 16Mn Steel/Zinc laminated composites by compound casting technology. The geometrical structure of 16Mn Steel/Zinc laminated composites was researched with the principles of theoretical mechanics and mechanics of materials to deduce the relationship, in the form of mathematical equation, between the geometrical structure and the structural damping of composites.
