This thesis mainly discusses the performance of the glass fiber reinforced and flame retarded polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) engineering plastics.With the help of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), the influence of nucleating agents nano-MgO and nano-SiO2 on the crystallization of PET is investigated under various conditions. The performance of PET engineering plastics modified with glass fiber,flame retardant and nucleating agents is also investigated. The study is carried out on the influence of the dosages of glass fiber and flame retardant on mechanical properties of PET engineering plastics, the crystallization behavior of flame retarded PET reinforced with glassfiber by using DSC, the differences of the mechanical properties of PET molded at various temperatures after addition of different quantities of nano MgO and nano SiO2 , and the interfacial structure of the PET composites by scanning electronic microscopy (SEM).This work also discusses the influence of non-blooming flame retardant A and decabromodiphenyl oxide (DBDPO) on the properties of glass fiber reinforced engineering plastics. Through analysis on DBDPO and non-blooming flame retardant A, the characteristics of non-blooming flame retardant are discovered.The results indicates that nano-nucleating agents MgO and SiO2 could promote the non-isothermal crystallization of PET obviously but nano-MgO is better than nano-SiO2. For isothermal crystallization of nano-MgO/PET composites at different temperatures, the variation of the quantity of nano-MgO has different effects. When 1.0%(wt) MgO is added, the crystallization of the PET system would be optimized at 125℃.After addition of different amounts of glass fiber and flame retardant to PET engineering plastics, the mechanical properties of the plastics will change.
