The water pollution problem was getting more serious with the development of industry, and a majority of drinking water sources of city in our country have been polluted more or less presently. The traditional process of raw water treatment has not only worked very well to most trace organic compounds in raw water, but also produce lots of THMs which can cause cancer. Meanwhile, one characteristic of water resource pollution is that the content of organic increasing, the component in water is becoming more and more complex. With the Scientific and technological progressing and medicine development, involve sectors updated the water quality standard in order to protect the safty of water supply for residents. The Ministry of Construction drawn up the《Water quality standards for urban water supply》in 2005 ,in which the number of index was increased from 35 to 103. The added indexs are mainly concentrated on organic detection items. the new standard claim a higher request for advanced treatment and detection for trace organics. It's important to establish the measurement of the trace organics using the normal test instruments such as GC or UV-VIS before we study the degradation of trace organics by photo-catalytic oxidation. In recent years, the more effective water treatment techniques are explored, such as the actived carbon adsorption technique, ozone-activated carbon process , biologic activated carbon, membrane separation process, photocatalytic oxidation and so on. The photocatalytic oxidation technique has become the mostly studied technique on the water treatment because it can degrade almost all trace organics to mineralized materials entirely without the second pollution. some important experimental data about the photocatalytic degradation of organic compounds in general concentration already have been obtained in our lab, while the concentration of organics in raw water is very low, the minimum concentration is 10-9.the consistency of degradation kinetics of trace organic compounds and the conclusion drew under general concentration should be studied hereafter. The research of photocatalysis still remains in the lab at present. It is urging to...
