This essay briefly reviewed the progress of oil tower revamping for ethylene unit since its first introduction to China. Gas phase polymerization and pyro-polymer entrain were tow key issues were shown here and needs much attention during revamping by the analysis and evaluation in this essay.The experiences of revamping tells that:1. three stages is better than tow stages.2. the efficiency of tray and packing were over evaluated.3. the structure of the circulation stage of trench oil tower not preferable.Another simulation was done upon the data of the ethylene unit with the capacity of 660000 ton/a(Ñ„9000mm) so as to state the key different element. A modification plan is to be duly given herein after referring to the over high temperature in upper tower:1. to add more trays in distillation stage and trench oil circulation stage so as to oblige the pyropolymer lying on the trays.2. to add grid beams and turtleback shell net so at to increase the anti-strike ability for internal.3. to replace the old channel liquid distributor and hump support to increase the anti-block performance.4. to add more gas distributors and gas redistributor.Anyway, many measures in this plan have been successfully applied to oil towers for Ethylene Unit domestically and have been recognized to be practical. The revamping analysis and the modification plan shall be significant to the future revamping of this tower.
