Seventeen new coordination compounds have been synthesized by the reaction of pyridine-3- sulfonate and 3-(3-pyridyl) acrylate acid with metal cations. The complexes were characterized by means of elemental analysis ,IR ,X-ray single crystal diffraction ,TG-DTA,etc.Some properties of the compounds were studied .The supramolecular compounds with ligand of pyridine-3- sulfonate were prepared . It was showed that the coordination compounds [M (C5H4NSO3)2(H2O)4](M= Cu2+(1),Ni2+(2),Co2+(3) ) possess the same structure .The metal cation is six-coordinated by two nitrogen atoms from two different pyridine-3- sulfonate,and four oxygen atoms from four water molecules. The [M (C5H4NSO3)2(H2O)4] molecules are assembled by hydrogen bonds into supramolecular system with 3D structure .Three coordination polymers [Cu (C5H4NSO3)2(H2O)2]n(4), [Mn(C5H4NSO3)2(H2O)2]n(5) and [Cd(C5H4NSO3)2(H2O)2]n (6) were synthesized. The X -ray diffraction analysis showed that the complexes have the same structure. The metal cation is six-coordinated by two N,two -SO3-from four different ligands,and two water molecules .The compounds have 2-D layer structure construced by hydrogen bonds.The coordination polymers with mixed ligands of pyridine-3- sulfonate and phen (or 4 , 4'-bipy),{[Cu (C5H4NSO3)(phen)Cl]·0.61H2O}n(7)和{[Cu2 (C5H4NSO3)2(4 ,4'-bipy )4·(H2O)2]·2C5H4NSO3·9.5H2O}n (8)were synthesized. The introduction of the second ligand makes the structure of the compounds to be more complicated and diverse.Nine coordination compounds of transition metal ions and rare earth ions with 3-(3-pyridyl) acrylate acid were prepared by normal solution methods or hydrothermal synthesis method . The results are as follows:(a) The coordination polymers[Zn(C8H6NO2)2(H2O)2]n(9) belongs to Triclinicsystem with P-1 space group , and [Cu(C8H6NO2)2(H2O)2] n (10) belongs to Monoclinic system with P2(1)/c space group . Two compounds are both six–coordinated complex having a distorted octahedral geometry. Two compounds both have a chain structure .The chains are linked further into two-dimension structure by hydrogen bonds.(b) The compound Fe(C8H6NO2)2(H2O)4 (11) displays a mononuclear structure .The [Fe(C8H6NO2)2(H2O)4] units are assemblied into 3D supramolecular structure by hydrogen bonding interaction . The coordination polymer [FeCo(C8H6NO2)4(H2O)4]n(12) consists of [Fe(C8H6NO2)2(H2O)2] and [Co(C8H6NO2)2(H2O)2] units. Fe2+,and Co2+ are both six-coordinated with octahedronal geometry .(c) The coordination polymer {[Cd(C8H6NO2)2(H2O)]·2H2O}n (13) has a novel seven-coordinated structure. In the coordination polymer [Pb2(C8H6NO2)4]n (14), Pb2+is eight-coordinated ,and the complex exhibits a stable 3-D structure.(d) The coordination polymers[Eu2(C8H6NO2)6(H2O)2]n (15),[Gd(C8H6NO-2)3(H2O)](n16)and [Dy(C8H6NO2)3]n(17)have been structurally characterized.In (15)and (16), Eu3+ and Gd3+ are both eight-coordinated.But in (17), Dy3+ is nine-coordinated.
