In order to research the controlling atmosphere and carbon-potential control of the multi-purpose chamber furnace, three kinds of experiments had been done in this paper. They are the experiments of online measure of the controlling atmosphere, the actual carbon-potential measure between the time of carbon control and the layer removal of the carburizing sample. The results had provided various DATA supports to the actual carbon-potential control.Based on the experiment results of the Carburization and tufftride atmosphere, a C-H-O system equilibrium atmosphere iterative method was utilized to calculate the major atmosphere components'equilibrium partial pressure ratio, activity of carbon and the forming of the carbon black. According to the results, it is very easy to form carbon black in the early period of carburization when the temperature and the carbon-potential were rising, and the carburizing atmosphere was formed by the mixture of the cracking gas of pure methanol.As to get more accurate carbon-potential control results, the experiments of measuring the actual carbon-potential during the carburization were taken hundreds of times. The single factor carbon-potential control method (oxygen probe), which was applied in this new type of sealed multi-purpose chamber furnace, had been deeply researched.
