Dimethylformamide(DMF)is widely used in leather industry,polyacrylonitrile fibre spinning and butadiene extraction craft as an important organic solvent. DMF wastewater only from leather industry is about one billion ton annual in China. DMF can pollute environment heavily because of its stable chemical property and bad biodegradation and is harmful to person's eyes and liver. 25mg/L is the highest concentration of DMF in water permitted by the Chinese government. So it is necessary to find an efficacious method to treat the DMF wastewater.The anaerobic treatment process can be considered as the core method of a resource preservation and environmental protection technology, it is very effective to treat the wastewater which is hard to treat with traditional way. So in this experiment, expanded granular sludge bed reactor is used to treat the DMF wastewater which is discharged by a factory in Haikou.This thesis is separated into three parts. The first part is research on DMF wastewater treatment by using EGSB reactor. The volume loading rate was increased by reducing HRT or increasing COD concentration of influent. The biggest VLR which the reactor can be endured was researched. Some primary factors influencing the steady operation of the system were studied.
