Health Cervical Traction Pillow Design For Office Staff

With the acceleration of the pace of society, cervical disease has become one of the most common diseases in modern society. Especially the percentage of patients of office staff became higher and higher.Cervical disease was a slow progress of degenerative diseases. When bending over at the desk or staring at the computer, the cervical spine was in abnormal flexion. Pressure on the disc increased, loading of muscle lopsided, long-term in that way could easily cause abnormal cervical bend, disc degeneration or other cervical disease.The purpose of this research was to ease the cervical problems of the office staff, and design a health cervical traction pillow for the office environment.Firstly, this paper analyzed the actuality of cervical disease and treatment. Then investigated into the related products, analyzed and summarized characteristics of various forms of treatment. Following was the in-depth research of cervical physiological structure and cervical disease pathology. Using the spinal biomechanics to analyze the cervical endogenous stability and neck muscles exogenous stability, then used anthropometry and ergonomics research methods to get human head and neck size and the normal cervical lordosis data. After the cervical disease investigation and the analysis of illness characteristics and patient lifestyle, then design a new product. Finally, with methods of X-ray film, surface sEMG analysis, and similar products comparisons to test and certificate the new product's design point.The health cervical traction pillow design focused on analysis of the human head and cervical spine curvature size, so that the head and neck can be aligned with the products comfortably. It could restore the cervical bend and eliminate neck muscle fatigue. Another improvement was to use back seat traction, fetch up the deficiencies existing in the traditional traction of both seated or lying. Combining the function of cervical traction, this health pillow could reduce disc pressure better, and relax the cervical and neck more deeply. The product model was experimented by X-ray, and it had a good response to the effectiveness of cervical lordosis. Neck muscles on the surface sEMG feedback showed that the products can relax the muscles better than relax by itself. This pillow was proved to be with better usability and higher satisfaction than other similar products by use-case experiments.
